After that year, when reality became too difficult to confront directly for long periods, reading cities through different authors became a wonderful escape. Last year's "Seems Like I've Seen You There" exhibition by Yeung Hok-tak already had such a romantic name, and the Hong Kong symbols on his canvases brought a lump to the throats of those who had lived through it. This print, "Big Sandbox," depicts a wobbly monkey bar from childhood, precariously perched on shifting sand, with the sea behind it representing both anticipation and vastness. Sipping coffee while gazing at it, you recognize the atmosphere and emotions within the frame, reminding yourself of that ineffable feeling. Another small painting is by my former boss, Davidcowcow; the beans immediately felt familiar. It's called "Black Face"—you know what that implies!
