Just a 1-minute walk inside Shinjuku Station, the shop is small, and many people choose to stand and eat before catching the train to work. As a tourist, I'd say it's quite charming and has a real sense of local life. Of course, when you're not the one rushing to work, it's easy to sound so carefree. BERG, originally a coffee shop in 1970, transformed into a fast-food establishment in the 1990s. In 2007, it faced eviction but, thanks to a petition signed by many customers, successfully fought to remain open at its original location. This small revolution was even documented in the book "Shinjuku Station's Last Small Shop, BERG."
