It is said that Otafuku started as a market stall, operating for four years before finally establishing its current location in 2004. Although it's not an old shop, the historical decor throughout the space is a result of barista Atsushi Noda's fondness for the atmosphere of kissaten (traditional Japanese coffee shops). He diligently collected items to create a Showa-era setting he loved. Even with his own shop, Noda maintains tradition, faithfully setting up a stall at Kyoto's famous "Hyakumanben Tezukuri-ichi" (Million Yen Handmade Market) on the 15th of every month, come rain or shine. His uniform of a shirt, waistcoat, and tie gives him a dapper appearance, and he brews coffee with a sense of mission, like a publicity ambassador. The cute logo on the coasters and matchboxes in the shop are also his own handiwork. The shop is located in Kyoto's Shijo shopping area, near Kawaramachi Takashimaya, a coffee shop buried underground. If you get tired while shopping, you can come here to rest your feet.
