Guji is a coffee-growing region in southern Ethiopia, administratively part of Oromia. In the past, some Guji coffees were sold on the international market under the Sidamo or Sidama name. As origin recognition and market demand developed, Guji gradually established its own independent market identity. Kercha is located within the Guji area and borders the neighbouring Gedeo region. The area is home to a large number of small-scale coffee farms. Coffee is often grown on high-altitude hillsides and forms part of an agroforestry system together with trees and other crops.
