Rulindo is located in the Northern Province of Rwanda. The coffee cherries come from high-altitude mountainous villages within the area, growing between 1,700 to 2,300 meters above sea level, primarily from smallholder farms around the Muyanza dam hills. The processing station is situated at 1,717 meters, with water sourced from mountain springs at 1,892 meters, providing exceptionally pure water.
This region experiences two dry seasons and two rainy seasons per year, with mild temperatures and ample rainfall throughout the year. Even during the dry seasons, coffee trees still flower, with the harvest period concentrated from March to June. The fertile sandy soil and unique geography nurture a bright and clean acidity, presenting fresh flavours of floral notes, berries, and lemon.
The farm owner, Leonard, insists on organic and environmentally friendly cultivation and processing methods—using livestock waste to produce organic fertilizers, employing organic weeding techniques, and introducing the water-saving Penagos pulping machine to reduce environmental impact during post-processing. In 2023, three new clean water stations were added around the processing facility, providing safe drinking water for local residents and improving their quality of life. In 2025, Leonard partnered with the government to promote a youth farmer loan program, helping young people access land and employment opportunities. The government provides land, Leonard supplies free coffee seedlings, and offers training in coffee and other cash crop cultivation as well as environmental conservation education—supporting farmers toward self-sufficiency and savings ability.
