✏️ References
Located in the Sidama region with an average altitude exceeding 2,200 meters, Arbegona is one of the highest coffee-growing areas in Ethiopia. This lot hails from the Rumudamo village in the highlands and was processed at the Rumudamo station, operated by our partner, Bursa Coffee. The extreme altitude results in a later harvest (November to January); this slow maturation creates a denser bean with a more refined and sophisticated flavour profile.
Bursa CoffeeFounder Mulugeta Muntasha has been a pillar of the coffee industry for 30 years, working with approximately 300 smallholders in Bursa village at an altitude of 2,350 meters to grow organic coffee. Beyond purchasing ripe cherries, he shares his extensive cultivation knowledge with farmers to ensure consistent quality. Today, his son Degefu has joined the business, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative breakthroughs to elevate the brand's influence in the specialty coffee world.
【A Cup of Excellence (COE) Champion】
Bursa Coffee’s washing stations and partner farmers are frequent winners in the Cup of Excellence (COE) competitions:
【Featured Variety: 74158】
The 74158 is a premier cultivar developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC), originally selected from wild trees in the Metu-Bishari forest. Renowned for its disease resistance and high yield, it was the winning variety of the 2022 Ethiopia Cup of Excellence (COE). It is characterized by intense floral and citrus tones with berry, apricot, and chocolate undertones. At high altitudes, its clarity and layering are further enhanced.
【Processing: Natural】
Sorting: Cherries from Duwancho village are first water-sorted upon arrival at the station to remove underripe or defective “floaters."
Shade Drying: High-density cherries undergo a slow drying process under shade for 22 to 28 days until the moisture content reaches 10.5%–11%.
Hand Selection: During drying, the cherries are turned regularly and undergo intensive manual sorting to remove any defects, ensuring a clean and pure cup. The coffee is then sent to Addis Ababa for hulling, color sorting, and grading before being bagged for export.
🚨 About Ordering
Coffee beans are freshly roasted every week. The cutoff for orders is on Tuesday, and the beans are roasted on Thursday, and will be shipped out on the following Monday.
🚨 Degas / Flavour maturation Recommendation
Freshly roasted coffee beans need some time to rest after roasting. Degassing let the excessive carbon dioxide that produce during roasting comes out from the beans, during these time, flavours of the Coffee will be maturer and more stable for better extraction and brewing results.
